Privacy policy
Last updated 14 October 2026
Zayvo is a dating site and app for gay and bi Muslim men: this website, zayvo.uk, and the Zayvo iPhone app. This policy says what we hold about you, why, who else sees it, and how to have it deleted.
What we hold
- Your account: your email address, the username you choose, your date of birth and your password, which is stored only as a one-way hash and can't be read back.
- Your profile: your photos, what you are and what you're looking for (types such as Bear or Cub, role, age range, distance), whether you can host or travel, and anything else you choose to fill in.
- Faith and background, if you add them: how practising you are, whether you pray, eat halal or drink, your sect, your heritage and languages, whether you're a convert, whether you're out to your family, and what you're here for.
- Sexual orientation, religion and ethnic origin: using Zayvo says something about your sexuality and religion, and your profile may say more, including your heritage. UK law treats all of these as special category data. We hold them only because you choose to put them on your profile, and only to run the site.
- Sexual health, if you add it: when you last tested and whether you're on PrEP, and whether you want reminders. This is health data. It's optional, shown to others only if you choose to show it, and you can remove it at any time.
- Your location: a postcode you type, or your phone's location if you tap Use my location. We keep the coordinates to work out distances and an area name such as "Westminster (SW1A)". Other members never see the coordinates.
- Looks read from your photos: your photos may be read automatically to note things like hair colour, a beard, tattoos or glasses, and whether your face is clear, so that members can filter by them. We never record ethnicity, skin colour, weight, age or attractiveness.
- Messages: the messages and photos you send and receive, and when they were read.
- Activity: when you were last online, whose profiles you view, woofs, and alerts you set for when someone comes online.
- Check-ins: if you set up a check-in before meeting someone, who you're meeting, the area and the time you expect to be back.
- Reports and blocks: reports you make, with your reason, and the people you block.
- Subscription: you pay Apple in the iPhone app. We never see your card or Apple account details. We keep Apple's transaction number for your subscription and the date it's paid up to.
- Notifications: if you allow them, a token that lets Apple or Google deliver notifications to your phone.
- Signing in: a session token in the app, and a cookie on this website, so you stay signed in. We use no advertising or tracking cookies.
What other members can see
- Your username, age, photos, types, role, what you're looking for, the looks noted from your photos, your area name and how far away you are, whether you're online, roughly how quickly you reply, the faith and background details you filled in (including whether you're out to your family), and your sexual health only if you chose to show it.
- Members whose profiles you view can see that you looked, and members you woof can see the woof. Members you set an online alert for are never told.
- In discreet mode you're hidden from the grid and only members you've been in touch with can see you, with your photos blurred until you choose to show them.
- Your email address is never shown to other members.
- The site administrator can see what's needed to deal with reports and help with accounts.
Why we hold it
To run Zayvo: to show your profile, find people near you, carry messages, send the emails and notifications that go with them, keep members safe, handle your subscription and reset a forgotten password. We rely on your consent for the special category and health data you choose to add, and on running the service you signed up for for the rest. We don't sell your data, and we don't use it for advertising or share it with advertisers.
Companies that process data for us
- Anthropic: reads your photos to note the looks described above and whether they show a face.
- Brevo: sends our emails (confirming your email address, password resets), so it handles your email address and those emails.
- Apple and Google: deliver notifications to your phone. Apple also takes payment for the subscription.
- postcodes.io: turns a postcode or location into an area name.
- Amazon Web Services: hosts the server and database, in the United Kingdom.
How long we keep it
Until you delete your account. Records of payments may be kept for as long as tax and accounting rules require.
Deleting your account
You can delete your account at any time from your profile, in the app or on this website (Delete my account), or email us and we'll do it. Deleting is immediate and can't be undone: it removes your profile, photos, messages and everything else above. Deleting your account doesn't cancel a subscription, which Apple bills: cancel it on your iPhone in Settings > your name > Subscriptions.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you can ask for a copy of what we hold about you, ask us to correct or delete it, withdraw your consent, and object to how we use it. Email us at the address below. If you're unhappy with our answer you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.
Over 18s only
Zayvo is only for adults. Nobody under 18 may use it, and we don't knowingly hold data about anyone under 18.
